The Malta Model Boat Association (MMBA) will be organising the Malta IOM Open 2023 between the 31st of March and the 2nd of April 2023.

The Organising Committee of the MMBA would like to extend a very warm welcome to IOM sailors to this event.
​
1. Organising Authority
The regatta will be organised by the MMBA under the auspices of the Malta Sailing Federation (MSF).

3. Venue
The regatta will be held in the North of the Island. However, should weather conditions dictate otherwise, the organisers will change the sailing location as they suit best.

4. Rules
The event will be governed by the current version of the following rules:

The rules as defined in the current Racing Rules of Sailing and as changed by RRS Appendix E

The current IOMICA class championship rules

The Equipment Rules of Sailing to the extent invoked by the class rules

5. Change to Rules
90.3(e) Replace “24 hours” with “5 minutes”.

6. Scoring System
The Heat Management System (HMS) will apply.
​
7. Entries
The maximum number of entries shall be limited to 62 by the provisions of the Heat Management System (HMS). Entry is open to all MMBA paid members and open to members of foreign clubs affiliated to a Delegated National Member of IRSA.
MMBA members have precedence over foreign applicants for this event. The remaining places will be filled in the order of registration until the entry limit is reached.
All entries shall be made by, and paid for, using the MMBA on-line entry system - Entry form
A reserve list will be created once the limit has been reached or the deadline elapses. The list will serve to replace any registered participant who decides to retire from the event and / or fails to effect payment within the stipulated timeframe from submission of the registration form.

8. Closing Date for Entries
The closing date of entries is midnight, 12th March 2023.
​
9. Fees
Entry fee will be €105.00 (*non-refundable fee). ​

10. Registration
A valid IOM class certificate for each boat must be submitted at registration time on the 31st of March 2023.
The organising authority may carry out random spot checks throughout the duration of the event.
​
11. Frequencies
Skippers not using 2.4 GHz are requested to advise the Race Committee of their frequency on their entry form, should there be a duplicate frequency requested, frequencies will be allocated on a first come basis.
​
12. Prizes
A perpetual trophy will be awarded to the top 5 placed skippers and an acknowledgement token will be given to each skipper.

13. Clothing
Be prepared for the weather to range from warm and / or sunny to cold with strong wind and / or rain!
Use of Sunblock is required as UV will be in mid-range level. A pair of Wellington boots are recommended.

14. Accommodation
The Paradise Bay Resort has very kindly offered special rates for skippers and their families only for the duration of the event, from the 30th of March to the 3rd of April 2023. 15. Competitors With Disability
Competitors who require any form of help or special requirements should, prior to entry, get in touch with the Event Secretary to check if the organisers are able to help with the provision of any such special requirements. The onus is on the competitor to establish whether the available facilities are adequate before deciding to enter the event.
16. Schedule
Friday, 31st March 2023
09:00 to 10:00 (in the sailing area) Registration
10:30 Briefing
No warning signal shall be given before [11:00] and after [17:00].

Saturday, 1st April 2023
No warning signal shall be given before [09:30] and after [17:00].
​
Sunday, 2nd April 2023
No warning signal shall be given before [09:30] and No warning signal of the first heat in a race shall be given after [14:45]. If no boat in the final heat of the intended last race has sailed the course in accordance with RRS 28.1 and finished by [15:15] then the last race shall be abandoned and the previous race shall be taken as the final race.
Presentation Ceremony will follow after the races till late.

17. Lunch
On all days mentioned above, there will be a fixed lunch break from 12:30 to 13:00 irrespective of the day’s weather. Skippers will be provided with a packed lunch during the 3 days of regatta.
18. Disclaimer of Liability
All those taking part in this regatta do so at their own risk and responsibility. The MMBA, Paradise Bay Resort and Race Committee as well as any other parties involved in the organisation of this regatta disclaim any and every responsibility whatsoever for loss, damage, injury or inconvenience that may occur to persons or goods, both ashore and on the water as a consequence of entering or participating in this regatta covered by this Notice of Race. Furthermore, the MMBA, the Paradise Bay Resort, the Race Committee and the Organising Committee cannot be held responsible for any medical condition which may require specialist medical services before, during and after the event and competitors, by entering this event, exonerate the Organising Committee from any liability whatsoever for the requirement of any medical equipment, supervision, treatment or consultation at any time whatsoever, before, during and after this event.
At all times the responsibility for the safety of their boat and themselves including the decision to participate or continue shall rest with the competitor. By entering the event it is deemed that you accept these conditions. Competitors are advised to ensure that they have adequate personal insurance that provides for public liability and any possible injury, and/or any medical condition or medical requirement that may arise.
